Mezcal Hot Toddy - YES, Please!

Simple, smoky, delicious.  This mezcal hot toddy is a great twist on an old classic!  Using mezcal instead of whiskey adds a surprisingly delicious and unexpected smokiness to the wintery cocktail.  It may be starting to warm up here in Palm Springs but there's no way I was going to deprive the rest of you who are still living in snowy wonderlands of this drink.  This bevvie was first brought to my attention when I asked my good friend Michael, who is a bartender at Birba and of whom many of you may know as Lutke, for a warm beverage on a rather chilly Palm Springs night, but I wanted it to be different, obv.  And it was EXACTLY the perfect mix of familiar and unexpected.  It warmed me right up and gave me a nice buzz!  I hope you love it as much as I do!  xx sarah

yields 1 cocktail

Ingredients
1.5 oz mezcal (we like Vida Organic)
1/2 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz honey
4 oz hot water
1 lemon wedge
1 orange wedge

Method
In a snifter mix honey and hot water until honey is dissolved.
Stir in mezcal and lemon juice.
Squeeze lemon wedge and orange wedge over beverage and garnish with fresh fruit or place the squeezed fruit directly into glass!

F10 Supports the PS Animal Shelter!

This month F10 is super excited to support the Palm Springs Animal Shelter!  For the whole month of November proceeds of our vegan "PERFECT PITTie" pizza will go directly to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter! The PS Animal Shelter is the only municipal no-kill animal shelter in the Coachella Valley, in a town that is so animal friendly we think it's incredibly important to show our support, raise awareness, and give back to establishments that share in our same values and protect our furry friends.  The shelter cares for between 400-600 animals every day, and depends on donations to continue to be there for the animals that depend on them.  All you need to do is stop in, enjoy a PERFECT PITTie pizza and grab some cocktails with friends! What else could be better than that?

We've been receiving a lot of great press lately! Here are some of the highlights!

Food and Wine Travel - Avalon Hotel & Chi Chi
Food and Wine features Chi Chi and the Avalon! We all know that Palm Springs no longer really has an "off season," and it's great to see! I think it's safe to say that Avalon with it's relaxed and modern vibes and Chi Chi with its health forward latin inspired plates is going to become one of the must visit places to stay and eat in PS!

Bodie On the Road - "Your Guide to Tail-Wagging Travels"
Bodie On the Road is the dog friendly travel blog of Belinda Jones, a British magazine journalist and travel author and her adorable pup Bodie!  The purpose of the blog is to share the best places to travel, dine, and stay with your favorite four legged companion in tow!  Recently Belinda and Bodie traveled to Palm Springs and named our very own Cheeky's and Birba as two of their favorite dog friendly places to dine and Chi Chi as one of their favorite poolside eateries!  Find out more about Belinda and Bodie by visiting their blog and checking out the full feature here! Thanks for dining with us Belinda and Bodie!

The Australian - Palm Springs, the Capital of Desert Cool
According the Australian, Palm Springs is one of the hippest places to visit these days, and we couldn't agree more!  With our dry air, sunshine filled days and poolside lifestyle it's no wonder it's the hottest place (literally) to be seen! Thanks for naming Cheeky's as one of your "treats in the heat!"  Read the full article for more Aussie goodness here!

Social Highlights
And last but certainly not least, instagram! I feel like there's been an explosion of fun grams all over my newsfeed, here is a round up of a few of my favorites!

Mr. Lyons - It's Official, We're Open!

We are beyond elated to announce the opening of our main dining salon at Mr. Lyons, the newest offering from the Foundation 10 family, taking the same attention to detail we've brought to Cheeky's, Birba and Alcazar and bringing it to a new vista on the South end of town.

Mr. Lyons will provide you with the classic elegance of a fine dining experience from the black and white marble floors and plush velvet seating to the tableside service and we are so excited to finally be sharing it with all of you!  We have always believed in the importance of putting local small farms first which will be evident in the Mr. Lyons menu, where we give steak a conscientious modern update.  With much more to come during the next phases of opening including a casual lounge, a patio and two private dining rooms for special events, we know you'll find the space as beautiful and the food as amazing as we do!

Currently Mr. Lyons will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 - 10pm.  You can make reservations by calling 760 327 1551 or through using open table at www.mrlyonsps.com!

Happy Friday folks!  There is something so exhilarating about the start of a new weekend, 2 full days of freedom!  YIPPEE!!!!

I have a few fun updates for you all regarding F10 happenings!

If you haven't been to Birba lately, we have new menus!! High quality with a great artisanal feel to them!  Not only are the menus new, but there are a few new items on the menu too!  We have some great seasonal dishes right now including the squash blossom and pancetta pappardelle, one of my personal faves!

You also may have seen a few new faces on the property, formal introductions to come soon but someone who I am very excited about working with is our new resident mixologist and beverage director straight from New Zealand, Steen!  Steen will be helping to create new cocktail menus for our restaurants as well as help create some fun recipes to share with you all on the blog!  Be on the look out for a full feature with Steen soon!

If you haven't noticed, the Alcazar has been looking mighty relaxing lately!  I sat down with Robert Hunt, the hotel's GM a few weeks ago for a fun interview which you can read here!  We are also running a few AHHHmazing deals at the hotel right now which you can see here! Including the 1-2-3 or Blue Skies, both offering specials for a 3 night stay!  Perfect for a staycation or extending your vacay into the week!

And last but certainly not least, Mr. Lyon's!!  Click Here to see what you can expect to feast on at the newest addition to the F10 line up.  I am incredibly excited about having fritto misto back in my life and about trying POTTED RILLETTES (wild boar, duck confit, wild salmon) -- and pretty much every.single.one of the side dishes.

That about covers it!! I hope everyone has an amazing weekend! Don't forget to check back for more updates and another Coachella Essentials Guide!! xo sarah

Your Name - Christina Reyes
Band Name - Caxton
Band Member Names - Adam Surdin (guitar), Brett McLaughlin (bass/vox), Brian Pelletier (drums), Christina Reyes (vox/keys)

How did you get started?
Adam, Brett, and Brian started playing music together in the desert during middle school and continued through college. In 2005, Adam and I met while studying music in Los Angeles. By 2008, Adam wanted to move back out to the Coachella Valley to reunite with Brett and Brian. He asked if I would be willing to do the same and the rest is history.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your music?
That's a tough one since it's constantly changing. Musically, I'd say we're mostly inspired by the artists we grew up listening to (classic rock, punk, jazz, etc). Lyrically, we draw from stories in pop culture, social issues, and personal experience. We share a lot of the same influences but we also have such diverse tastes and interests that I think explain our eclectic sound.

Do you have any loves other than music?
Music is definitely in the foreground for us but we have some other hobbies, for sure. I'm big on reading books and traveling as often as possible. Brian is really into camping and fishing, he digs being outdoors. Adam has a keen eye for art. Whether he's at a gallery/museum or framing it himself, he definitely knows what's good. Brett was a film major in college and super artistically gifted. In fact, he's responsible for most of our flyer and posters. You can catch him splicing up vintage footage and even drawing full blown cartoons for our music videos. As a group, we're all also really into trying new/local beers, watching weird shows on Netflix, and being probably too into our pets.

What do you think about when you're performing?
I can't speak for everyone, but for the most part, I think we're all just in the moment. We feed off the energy in the crowd so when they're hyped, so are we. After almost 7 years together, I'm still so humbled by the love and encouragement we have out here. Sometimes when I look out and see people dancing and singing along, I'm overwhelmed by the constant amount of support. Plus, it never gets old playing with your best friends. We honestly just have a blast every time we get together.

What else can we expect from you in the future?
We're currently in the midst of writing our new album. We've released a few singles and EPs in the past year so now we're working on another full-length record. Most exciting, however, is our race to play Tachevah this year. We made the finals again and are hoping to go all the way this time. Our showcase is Wednesday February 25 at The Hood in Palm Desert and would love to see everyone there for support.

What’s the best advice you've ever been given?
We've been given a ton of great advice over the years. I think what stands out most often for us though is to never give up and always remember how great those small victories feel. This isn't an easy industry by any means and that isn't lost on us. We are so grateful for all the amazing opportunities we've had so far and we use all the support we receive to fuel our drive even further.

Who are you currently listening to?
It's constantly changing but for me, it's The Pixies, Devo, and The Smiths. Other artists we're hip on right now are Dr. Dog, Tame Impala, Jack White, and The Strokes.

What is your secret food craving?
Nothing too secret. I'm a total sushi lady and we're always up for a good za (pizza that is for us less- hip folk, yes I asked just incase maybe it was some super awesome new food I had been missing out on!)

Do you have any hidden talents?
90s trivia. Nobody can touch us on that.

Is there anything else you’d want us or readers to know?!  Tachevah! That's really where our immediate focus is right now since our chance to play is coming up in just a couple weeks. Beyond that, we have acoustic shows at Wolfgang Puck's (Feb 11), Birba (Feb 12), Schmidy's (Mar 6), and Plan B (Mar 12). We're stoked on writing this new record and can't wait for everyone to hear it. Thanks to everyone for the awesome support over the years, we seriously appreciate it.

Zagat, Where to Eat and Drink Around Palm Springs!

I'd like to give a quick thanks to anyone who came out last night to support the Local 622 music showcase at Birba!  It was great to see so many familiar faces.  Robbie Owen did an amazing job!  If you missed him play this time you can check out his band WAXY later this month at The Purple Room Friday, February 20th and at The Hood Wednesday, February 25th! Don't forget we have the wonderfully talented Caxton playing at next week's Local 622!

It was such an honor to have both Cheeky's and Birba mentioned in Zagat's Where to Eat and Drink Around Palm Springs feature this past week!  It's great to see so many of the Uptown restaurants in the article and be mentioned among some of my personal favorite restaurants around town such as Dish, Workshop and the Smoketree Supper Club!  If you haven't checked it out already, you can see the article here!

Thanks Zagat for including us on your list!
